Sunday, all 3 of us rolled out of the house in our comfiest football gear to get our tree, but not without a quick trip to the dreaded Walmart. I, for one, can only take the place in small doses, so anytime between Thanksgiving and the New Year probably isn’t the best time to go. But there were things I needed, so we ventured over before we went to get the tree.
As we were leaving, the cashier pointed out that Santa was in a little room across from us, taking free pictures. After the first mishap with Santa, I was glad to have another quick chance to make it up to Lily. I asked her if she wanted to check him out and she nodded shyly, so I took off her hat and coat and she went right for him. She whispered to him that she wanted princesses and he gave her a candy cane. We were on our way within 2 minutes, and she was so proud of herself for meeting him and talking to him.
This was her fist time ever meeting Santa and sitting in his lap. When I pictured Lily’s first photo with Santa, I pictured her all dressed up in something festive with her hair freshly fixed. Her Saints jersey wasn’t exactly what I’d planned.
If you asked me yesterday, I would have said she was a little under-dressed.
If you asked Tim yesterday, today, or any day, she had on the perfect ensemble for Santa meeting.
But this morning I’m thinking that maybe Tim’s right… we got the real Lily in that photo. No dress or bow or overdone getup, just Lily on a Sunday afternoon.
