What is this you ask? Well, it’s a big, fat cooking fail.
No, it’s not a plate of raw chicken; actually, it’s my take on these 6 Minute Microwave Caramels I found on the black hole known as Pinterest. I honestly need to stay off of that site because it makes me believe that I’m Martha Stewart. I’m not.
Like anybody else, I love an easy recipe that yields great results, so I’m willing to try anything once. It doesn’t always turn out perfectly though; remember the 2 Ingredient Pumpkin Muffins? Bleh. But I swear by the 2 Ingredient Reeses Cookies. Delicious.
Since I have a 50/50 chance that whatever I make is going to be good, I had to try this recipe, especially since I had most of the ingredients in the pantry: sugar and more sugar. Salted caramels are my go-to item at the candy shop, so I was drooling over the thought of a lifetime supply for a dirt-cheap price.
I followed every single direction, but I didn’t end up with these:
Instead, I ended up with an overly-sweet blob of salted sugar. What gives?
If any of you have the ingredients and are willing to give it a try, let me know how they turn out. Here’s the exact recipe I followed, word for word:
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. light Karo
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
Combine all ingredients. Cook 6 minutes, stirring every two minutes. Stir and pour into a greased dish. Let cool. Cut, wrap in wax paper & store in air tight container.
Maybe I need to hang up my Rachael Ray gloves and stick to what I know: the Crock Pot.
